Feeling Blue Suicide Prevention Council is pleased to offer a series of three different suicide prevention trainings, in collaboration with Drexel University College of Medicine Behavioral Health Education. You may download the brochure and registration form by clicking here.

The programs being offered are:

  • ASIST 2-day gatekeeper training

ASIST is designed to help all caregivers become more willing, ready and able to help with persons at risk. This workshop is for all caregivers (any person in a position of trust). This includes professionals, paraprofessionals and lay people. It is suitable for mental health professionals, nurses, physicians, pharmacists, teachers, counselors, youth workers, police and correctional staff, school support staff, clergy and community volunteers. Emphasizing structured small-group discussions and practice, the course uses a 20-page workbook and two award-winning audiovisuals. Participants receive a 152-page Suicide Intervention Handbook and a full color, tear-resisitant pocket card featuring intervention and risk review and safeplan development principals. They serve as living refreshers of the workshop learning. Please see the brochure for more information, including continuing education credit.

  • Assessing and Managing Risk for College Counseling Staff

This one-day workshop focuses on competencies that are core to assessing and managing suicide risk and is a collaboration of the American Association of Suicidology and the Suicide Prevention Resource Center. The course recognizes that complex ethical issues must be considered when providing care to suicidal clients and weaves threads of these discussions throughout the curriculum. Additionally, the course introduces the principals of The Chronological Assessment of Suicide Events (CASE), an innovative method for eliciting suicidal ideation. The result is an engaging mixture of lecture, video demonstrations, and exercises that leave clinicians more knowledgeable and confident when faced with suicidal clients. Please see the brochure for more information, including continuing education credit.

  • QPR Gatekeeper Trainer Certification (T4T)

This one-day certification course is for any person interested in preventing suicide within their community. It trains instructors to teach QPR for Suicide Prevention to their community. Participants learn about the nature of suicidal communications, what forms these communications take, and how they may be used as a stimulus for a QPR intervention. To gain perspective, participants are introduced to the history of suicide, suicide prevention, and the spectrum of modern day public health suicide prevention efforts. Participants learn how to market QPR, target potential Gatekeepers, and how to teach the QPR curriculum. They will also have th opportunity for individual rehearsal and practice through role-plays. Please see the brochure for more information, including continuing education credit.

QPR stands for Question, Persuade and Refer. Click here to learn more about the QPR gatekeeper training Feeling Blue offers.
